Replacing Some Windows On The House

I am working on replacing some of the old windows in my house.

For years I have been wanting to replace some of the windows in my house. I live in a really old house and some of the windows are still original. They are so old that the glass in the window is really wavy. These windows don’t work all that well. They are hard to open in the summertime and they are very drafty in the winter.

A few years back I discovered that the plastic window kits that create an extra insulation factor around a window actually work quite well. In the one area in my living room, there is a chair next to a bay window. During the winter you could feel the coldness of the outdoors seeping through those windows and into the living room. That chair was one of the most uncomfortable places to site because of it.

I finally bit the bullet this year. I actually went to Home Depot and ordered a couple of custom sized replacement windows for that spot. I just finished installing them and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The new windows look much better than the old ones that were there. It made quite a little mess and took a while to clean up. But, it was worth it.

If you are on the fence about replacing some windows in your home, take my advice. It is worth the investment.

Longer Drives To Work Now

It is back to school time and the buses are back on the road

I love late summer and early fall because it is football season. One of the things I don’t like about it though is the fact that it is also back to school season. Back to school means that it is going to take an extra five or so minutes to get to work. I know that sounds silly. Who should be whining about an extra five minute ride to work right? Well, I am going to whine about it.

You get used to your morning routine. Everything becomes a habit that is deeply engraved. Then on the day the buses start, everything gets screwed up. You get stuck doing 40MPH on a main road that has a speed limit of 55MPH. You get stuck behind a line of cars full of people heading to work who are all stuck behind a big yellow school bus that is picking up kids every ¼ mile or so.

I don’t know about you but it drives me nuts. I hate getting stuck in traffic when I am trying to get to work. I hate having to leave early.

Lightword Theme

I really love this new theme. The color scheme is awesome. The text really stands out. The text area is offset well with the gray background surrounding it. Everything looks nice and clean. I love these techy programmer guys who create these things and make them available for free. You guys are awesome.

Changing my blog theme

So, I really haven't done a whole lot with this blog so far. I had grand plans for it, but my interest is waning from where it started.

At first I really like the theme called Pixeled. It looked really cool. The problem was that I don't think anyone would really read what I had to say because it was kind fo difficult to read the text on it. As a result, I am switching to a new theme. I am going to use one called Lightword for a while. Hopefully this one will be better for reading purposes. Isn't that the whole point of blogging?

Duh?

Sometimes I am an idiot.

Every year around this time I really miss mom

Not to get all morbid and everything, but my mother has been dead for a few years now. Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday. I really miss her around now. I start remembering her laugh and her smile. It is a shame we have to lose the ones we love one day. I guess that is what makes life itself so precious. We are only here for a short while.

So I am going to go to the flower shop and get her a nice hearty plant for her grave. She always loved the outdoors and gardening. I guess I got a little bit of it from her.

If you are reading this and your parents are still alive, I suggest you take a minute and acknowledge how grateful you are that they are still around. Don’t waste the opportunity to spend more time with them while they are still around. Life has a funny way of blindsiding you unexpectedly. One morning you get that phone call that something has happened.

Don’t dwell on it. Just remember how precious your relationship with your loved ones really is. You are a living creation of your mom and dad. Their blood runs through your veins. Respect them, honor them and love them. Don’t forget to pick up some flowers for your mom this Mother’s Day. You will make her day.

Made My First Windows Movie Maker Video Today

I helped a buddy of mine make a movie using Windows Movie Maker today. He just got back from a Caribbean cruise vacation with his son. He is a single dad who really needs to meet someone badly.

He had a bunch of video clips that he took with his JVC camera. For starters, the JVC camera used a file extension .mod which I was unfamiliar with. I thought we might be up the creek because of the weird file extension. As it turns out, all I had to do was rename each of the video clips to the file extension .mpg for MPEG.

I tried using the automated movie maker function from within Windows Movie Maker. It didn’t work right. I guess that function is meant to be used with photos and not videos. It ended up chopping off each video clip after just about 10 seconds.

I thought I really screwed things up on him. Fortunately it was easy enough to remedy. I just had to create the entire movie from scratch by dragging and dropping each small video clip into the proper order that he wanted.

All in all I was pretty impressed with Windows Movie Maker. I will definitely be using this software again at some point. It is really cool stuff.
